The frequent appearance of high profile public figures in the news due to the negative effects of their sexual behavior suggests that this issue is growing in our society.  Almost every community has examples of men and women with out of control sexual behavior.  They are not all immoral or weak-willed.  Many of these men and women likely have a brain disease. Sexual addiction is quickly becoming an epidemic in this country, partly due to the accessibility and anonymity of internet pornography. Men and women are getting involved in what, at first, could be seen as curiosity. Online social media, chat, adult dating sites have proliferated, and attract unprecedented numbers of visitors.  It often quickly turns into an obsession, spiraling out of control.  This can lead to increasing isolation and loss of time, due to surfing porn sites and masturbating, or escalating to ever more risky and dangerous behaviors, such as seeking prostitutes, anonymous sex, or exhibitionism.  There are others who are attracted to the fantasy of new relationships, and engage in a series of affairs or seductive behaviors in order to produce a “high” or a state of arousal to which they turn, time after time, in a compulsive manner.  What these behaviors have in common is a loss of control, preoccupation with sex, and diminished satisfaction in important relationships.
